Originally set on a creative path in illustration with ambitions of becoming a tattoo artist, Toby’s career took a sharp turn in 2020 when the pandemic prompted him to instead pursue a City & Guilds course in welding.
That decision proved pivotal. Combining formal training with hands-on experience at a local classic bike specialist, Toby quickly carved out a name for himself. He later joined forces with friend and fellow Retropower team member George Sinclair at Duke of London, where he honed his skills further, especially with custom Triumphs and Harleys. He relocated to the East Midlands and Retropower in the spring of 2025.
Toby’s personal garage is a tribute to old-school engineering, currently home to a 1954 Triumph T110 and a 1953 Triumph 6T Thunderbird chopper. His love for vintage cars runs just as deep, as evidenced by his 1938 Ford Fordor Deluxe Sedan – a former non-runner he brought back to life, now awaiting a comeback after a cracked flathead V8 block and an impending supercharger upgrade.
