Nathaniel (Nat) has an extensive engineering background as well as a passion for anything powered by internal combustion!
After gaining a degree in mechanical engineering, he worked for several years as a Process Improvement Engineer for Timken Bearings at their Leicestershire-based steel rolling mill.
Following this he was employed by Metzeler/Schlegel Automotive (an automotive sealing systems manufacturer, supplying companies such as Bentley and Toyota) as Engineering Projects Manager.
Nat is in charge of the fabrication and engineering side of Retropower and is more than capable of taking an automotive ‘dream’ and turning it into a carefully designed and perfectly executed piece of engineering.
Some of his most ambitious yet ultimately successful undertakings within this sphere include one-off suspension assemblies for both the Gordon Murray Ford Escort Mk1 (an independently sprung affair) and the de Dion arrangement found underneath the rear of our Millington-powered Alfa Romeo GT Junior.
Nat’s unabashedly varied automotive grounding is reflected in his own personal car history. Italian metal has been a fixture (he currently owns a Fiat 124 Sport Coupe), as has competition machinery; he’s built more than a few bona fide rally cars in his time and has recently taken delivery of a LS V8-powered class seven Autograss car.
You’ll be able to follow his progress in this ballistic form of motorsport via our dedicated YouTube series, ‘Smoking Grass with Nat’.
